The word ‘ilinx’ describes a feeling of disorientation, a disruption of perception which can often be sought in physical play. Different feelings can be evoked from a ride designed to make stomachs go upside down and inside out, or the dizziness experienced when being spun around. This fun or discombobulating feeling is often supported by the knowledge that solid ground awaits, to offer balance and stability. The activities in this ride encourage a mixture of movement and stillness, spontaneity and focus. Exploring the roles of captain or shipmate, enables individuals to lead or follow physical instructions, whilst discovery games encourage participants to scratch beneath the surface, explore competition and engage their memory function.
